CRAZY 8 COMING TO UTAH

Crazy 8 is coming to Utah. They are opening stores in South Towne Center, Layton Hills and University Mall. If not aware, Crazy 8 is Gymboree's cheaper line of clothing (like Old Navy is to Gap). I believe the South Towne store opens this week or next.

ITZBEEN BABY TIMER

As a new mom I didn't realize how important it would be to keep track of all of the different times your baby eats, sleeps, poops, etc. etc. It was daunting sometimes as a sleep deprived mother to remember all of these important keys to a happy baby. Have you seen the Itzbeen baby timer? It is one of those things where you say "why didn't I think of that?" I will for sure be getting one the next time around.

POTTY WATCH

Have you seen the Potty Watch? It is a little watch your child can wear that has a little timer on it. You can set the timer at 30, 60 or 90 min. intervals and it plays a little tune to remind your child to go potty. It has been nice to use with my son because I am tired of being the bad guy that makes him stop playing to go potty. Now it is the potty watch that makes him go! SALT LAKE CONNECT PASS

The Salt Lake Connect pass will get you into 13 different attractions located within one hour of SLC, Utah. The price for adults is $20 for one day, $30 for 2 days and $40 for 3 days. You can go to Discovery Gateway, the Snowbird tram, Red Butte gardens, etc. This would be fun for visitors but also residents!

If you are considering buying a new bike (and you live in proximity to Riverton, Utah) then you should check out Infinite Cycles. I just got a bike and bike trailer from their store and my son and I have loved going on rides each morning.

Have you seen the Keiki Kover yet? It is a nursing cover unlike the others out there. It is more of a poncho style and it is a great nursing cover because it gives you full coverage in the front and back and you can also use it to drape over your car seat or stroller. They have a very soft and lightweight fabric and tons of darling fabric borders to choose from. Go to their site and check them out! They are irresistable. OQUIRRH MOUNTAIN TEMPLE OPEN HOUSE

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has built a temple in South Jordan, Utah (near 11400 S. and Bangerter Hwy. in the Daybreak neighborhood) called the Oquirrh Mountain Temple. Before the temples are dedicated and put into use the LDS Church allows the public to tour their temples. This will be happening between June 1-August 1st. SOLARLITE

I found these awesome flashlights at Costco the other day. They are called SolarLite and they are a solar flashlight that also has a battery backup. You can charge them with any light source (sun, lightbulbs, etc.) and they will provide 10 hrs. of light on one full solar charge. And they will hold a charge for over 3 years. They are bright because they are an LED light. They are very lightweight, durable, waterproof (up to depths of 80 feet) and they float. I bought a two pack for about $22 at my local Costco. On SolarLite's website they are $24.95 a piece! I bought them for the cars, 72 hour kits and for around the house. Of course you can never be too prepared!

VALENTINE FAIRY

Well...the Valentine Fairy visited our home last night while my son was sleeping. She stamped his cheek with a heart stamp and left a paper heart trail down the stairs and to some candy and a small toy. It was almost as fun as Christmas for our 2 1/2 year old.

FRIEND AND NEW ERA WEBSITES

The LDS Church has created new websites for the Friend and New Era magazines.

The Friend website, www.friend.lds.org, is for ages 3-12 but also has sections for teachers of primary children and parents. Your children can find coloring pages, listen to stories, play games, etc.

The New Era website, www.newera.lds.org, is for ages 12-18. This is a fun site with talks, comic strips, videos, mormads, etc.

QUEEN BEE TEA FUNDRAISER

The following is information regarding a fundraiser for a non-profit called Project Lemonade:

We are excited to announce our fundraiser for 2009, the "Queen Bee Tea." This fundraiser will be held on February 28, 2009 at 12:00 pm at La Caille (www.lacaille.com). Tickets will be on sale through www.project-lemonade.org until February 14, 2009 or until sold out. The cost is $30 (Adult) and $25 (child) which will include traditional English tea (herbal tea and hot cider as well), etiquette class, entertainment by various Utah queens and Miss Utah, Kayla Barclay, as well as a princess fashion show and auction.

This will be a great event for Mothers and Daughters, Sisters, and friends. You are encouraged, but not obligated, to dress for the occasion. Fairy God Mothers are also welcome. Also included is a silent and live auction for all things princess.

The purpose for this tea is to not only raise general funds for Project Lemonade, but to specifically begin a scholarship fund. These scholarships will be given to underprivileged children to use in community activities.
Some of these activities will include community sports, art programs (both visual and performing) and general education programs. These will be awarded to underprivileged children based on scholastic achievement and commitment principals.

COSMETICS SETTLEMENT

Have you heard about the Cosmetics Settlement yet? There was a class action suit against some of the cosmetics companies and they are giving away $175 million worth of cosmetics until January 27th or while supplies last (but they are going fast!) You can go to select department stores and pick up certain cosmetic items for free but each person only gets one item and you have to sign a form saying that you purchased a cosmetic item during May 1994-July 2003. Read more on the website here. I looked over the list of items they are giving away and I wasn't too excited. Especially if you only get one item. I wouldn't mind some Lancome mascara but it isn't worth driving across town to find out that they are out. Just a thought...

What do these 2 stores have in common? They are both closing. Well...sort of. DSW Shoes is only closing ONE store at the District in South Jordan, Utah but the Babycenter.com store is closing entirely on January 6th. They want to focus more on just Babycenter.com. You can find deals up to 80% off but I wasn't too impressed when I did some poking around. The DSW has all of their shoes at 30% off right now and at some point will up that to 50% off.

POTTY TRAINING?

I want to hear from you parents out there who know a little something about potty training. My son is interested but it is hard to tell if we are ready. Did any of you struggle with this? QUIET ACTIVITIES

I have 2 ideas for a quiet time activity for your kids. Whether it be the Dr.'s office, airplane, church or whatever.

The first are the Peek a Boo bags. These are also called I Spy Bags, but I the company I like is Peek a Boo and they are only $15 as opposed to some Etsy sellers that are around $30. They have a list of items and then your child searches through the plastic beads to find each item. They make a girl version, a boy version, and an alphabet version that has an item to go with each letter of the alphabet. They are sold online and at over 300 retailers nationwide.

The second item are these portable magnet boards make by Tika Kids. They have an etsy shop and you will see them in various boutiques in Utah. They sell a bunch of different options to use on the magnet board as well as some puzzles of Jesus. At first I wasn't sure if I wanted my child playing with a cut up picture of Jesus but I decided that it is better to have them thinking about Christ in church than super heroes so I gave in. The boards are only $10.

FAMILY HOME EVENING FOR LITTLE ONES

In the LDS Church we are asked to hold Family Home Evening with our families each Monday night. Family home evening is a special time set aside each week that brings family members together and helps us become closer to one another as well as our Heavenly Father.

It is challenging to plan a lesson for young children since their attention span is so short. The LDS Church recently came out with a new lesson manual for Nursery Children. I purchased the manual and have been using it each week for Family Home Evening. I have really enjoyed it and now I don't worry about what to plan each week or what to teach. I would highly recommend this.
